Access to the centre

The following streets are pedestrian-only zones in July and August (between 10 a.m. and 12 a.m.):

  • Koning Leopold III-plein
  • Casinoplein
  • Steenstraat
  • P. Devauxstraat
  • Kerkstraat (between Koning Leopold III-plein and Zeedijk)
  • Molenstraat
  • Langestraat (between Weststraat and Hoogstraat)
  • Bakkersstraat
  • Vissersstraat
  • Manitoba Square
  • Breydelstraat
  • Nieuwstraat

The traffic-free centre is only accessible to vehicles from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. Taxis and cyclists and e-steps always have access. Go-karts (wider than 1 metre) and speed pedelecs are not allowed.

Permit

For urgent repairs and access to garages, you can apply for a permit to get through.

  • Permit holders are checked via the number plate of their vehicle with smart cameras.
  • You can apply for a permit online via www.politieblankenberge.be
  • You apply for the permit 3 working days in advance.
  • Do you drive through the low-traffic area without a permit? Then you risk a GAS fine of 58 euros.

From 1 September to 30 June, the following streets will be free of traffic between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.:

  • Kerkstraat (between Koning Leopold III-plein and Zeedijk)

The traffic-free centre is only accessible to vehicles from 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. Taxis and cyclists and e-steps always have access. Go-karts (wider than 1 metre) and speed pedelecs are not allowed. The side streets of the Kerkstraat are not traffic-free, this is only the case during the summer months.

Permit

Do you still want access to Kerkstraat between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.?

  • Then submit an application via the website. The application must be submitted at least three working days in advance.
  • Do you already have a permanent permit to drive along the Kerkstraat? Then you do not need to submit a new application.
  • Permit holders are checked via the number plate of their vehicle by smart cameras.
  • Do you drive through the traffic-free area without a permit? Then you risk a GAS fine of 58 euros.

Zeedijk closure

The Zeedijk (promenade) is closed to all vehicle traffic from 1 July through 31 August from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. The Zeedijk is accessible until noon on the 1st, the 15th, the 16th and the 31st of both these months. The police closely monitor the area when the Zeedijk is closed to vehicle traffic.

On the Zeedijk, you are allowed to ride bikes and e-steps in both directions on the carriageway and the footpath all year round. The footpath is a pedestrian zone where cycling is allowed. The same applies to the car-free area in the city centre.

De Smet de Naeyerlaan one-way traffic

From 1 July to 31 August inclusive there will be one-way traffic in De Smet de Naeyerlaan from the station to the port.

Polder area

To prevent creeping traffic, the barriers in Neptunuslaan and at the tractor lock in Scharebrugstraat will be closed from 1 June to 30 September.
