Exhibition of drawings by Frans Masereel

A quick sketch on paper, a hasty scribble or an elaborate drawing: it is the beginning of any work of art. This also applies to painter-engraver Frans Masereel. The man has drawn all his life, from the moment he could hold a pencil as a toddler until his deathbed eighty years later.

In 2022 it will be exactly 50 years since Masereel died in Avignon. We will commemorate this event in his hometown Blankenberge with an exhibition entirely dedicated to his drawings. In many works we see the sea, sand, ports, fishermen and sailors: a visible, lasting influence of the years he spent in Blankenberge.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 15 October 2022 to Sunday 8 January 2023 and is free to visit.
