'De Fonteintjes' are best known for their plant diversity. Five species of wild orchids, including reed orchid, bee orchid and marsh helleborine, flourish there. Other gems like adder's tongue, limpet and the extremely rare plantain pondweed also thrive there. May and June are the months par excellence to admire the plants.

Blankenberge-based Ann Van Belle studied art history and fine arts and is a much sought-after tattoo artist and portrait artist. She creates unique paintings using a variety of techniques. Discover some of her most beautiful and striking works in our Large Salon.

From 30 June to 31 August, the educational mini-expo ‘The Magic of Shells’ will run in the exhibition area of the Uitkerkse Polder Visitor Centre. Are you also fond of shells? Through this small exhibition, you will fall under the spell of the beauty of bivalves and snails. You can see, touch, hear the molluscs' houses... You can test and expand your shell knowledge at the same time.

During the winter months, the Uitkerkse Polder is bursting at the seams with bird life. Many thousands of geese, who spent the summer breeding season in the far arctic north, come in winter to feast on the nutritious grass they find in the vast meadows. You will find imposing flocks of kola geese, barnacle geese and pink-footed geese all over the wide area. For the latter, the Belgian coastal polders are one of the most important wintering areas in the world.
