Heritage walk: setting foot in the belle époque

During the 19th century, Blankenberge developed from a humble fishing village into a fashionable seaside resort.

The rise of tourism towards the end of the 19th century coincided with a substantial wave of expansion. The quiet, dreamy fishing village began to witness luxurious villas rapidly going up from about 1895 onwards. After Ostend, Blankenberge became the place to be for both the domestic and the international in-crowd.

At just over 4 km, this walk guides you past some fine examples of the larger holiday houses owned by our affluent denizens. There are also still plenty of traces of Blankenberge’s rich maritime past in the town’s harbour.
