Thirty photographs, including of some rare species, portray our birds in the polders up close during their daily activities. Singing, flying, sleeping and even mating, they come before the lens in a sometimes surprising but recognisable setting. All shots were taken over the past eight years by amateur photographer Bart Verstraete in the hinterland of Belgium's east coast.

Anyone who has ever visited tavern 'Het Koetshuis' has surely asked themselves what the little pavilion in the courtyard once served for. A working group of the city guides looked up the chronicle of the Mamet/Konkelberge family and housed their story in the pavilion.
